Courage Set to Focus on Public Safety, Transportation

John Courage is the newly-elected San Antonio District 9 city councilman.

Courage’s name was not new to ballots here in San Antonio, but he said he plans to hit the ground running.

“I’m putting together a team that will help work with me to help represent the people in District 9 and integrate what I’d like to do with what’s ongoing with the city now,” Courage said.

Courage defeated Marco Barros on Saturday by 856 votes. He wants to make sure public safety institutions, like the police and fire departments, are operating at the top of their game.

He also said transportation on the city’s north side is one of his top priorities. He would like to see Highway 281 extended as quickly and as economically as possible, add more lanes to Loop 1604 and expand VIA options.

“The north side has relied on regular automobile traffic to get around and the congestion is getting out of hand,” Courage said. “We need to have better public transportation in the city to offer an alternative to all the cars on the roadway.”

Courage said he has spoken with many of the new faces that will be sworn into office soon and expects a collaborative, cooperative city council group.
