Remember when you arrived at church a couple of Sunday’s ago, and the police stopped you on your way into the sanctuary to see your religion license?
“Sorry, sir, but the law is clear. If you want to worship your God in your own way you must have your license with you,” said the man with the badge.
Then there was the time when you and some friends were hanging out drinking a few beers at your favorite watering hole when another cop approached and asked to see your free speech license.
“Sir, the couple at the table next to you complained that they didn’t care for what you were saying.”
“Yeah, they were forced to pay their bill and leave before they were ready because they were deeply offended by your opinion,” the assistant to the deputy chimed in.
“Do you have your free speech license with you?”
Are we required to take a course, show proficiency, pass a test, and become licensed by the state before we can freely exercise our religion?
Or do we need to enroll in a course, pay the state a fee, and carry a license with us at all times in order to speak freely and openly?
The obvious answer is a resounding NO. Never! Over my dead body! Those are my rights which are guaranteed by the constitution!
You’re right, they are.
Here’s another right guaranteed by the constitution;
“The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
Simple. Straight forward. Just as intended by our Founding Fathers.
So if we don’t require a license for the other rights why is it a requirement for this one?
Texas HB 1911 seeks to eliminate the requirement that Texans must have a permit to keep and bear their arms.
Now, I have a few problems with some of the restrictions in this bill. I would like to see all-out constitutional carry everywhere, but I will take this as an incremental step along our way.
We live in an increasingly lawless society, and it’s only going to get worse not – better. Police are in the cleanup and investigation business, and so we should be making it easier not harder for law-abiding folks to have the tools they need to defend themselves.
Do you know who the people are in our society who are already exercising their “right” to constitutional carry? Criminals! Gangbangers! Rapist! Murderers!
Law abiding citizens are put at an extreme disadvantage and are rendered vulnerable by current law and prohibitions on their right to keep and bear arms. Criminals carry without a license while those who follow the law must jump through hoops. That’s backwards and just plain dumb.
In closing, when I discuss this on air I invariably will get the caller who says, “Yeah- well we require a license to drive a car!” Those who say that clearly don’t know the difference between a right and a privilege.
Know your rights, or the day may come when you will be required to carry a license on your way into church.
