Deadly Crash Ends Chase

A high speed chase that began with a traffic stop for speeding comes to a violent–and deadly end on the Northeast side.

“It ended at O’Connor near Nacogdoches–where the driver lost control of the pickup and crashed outside of an apartment complex” said James Keith with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office–who told KTSA News the chase lasted for upwards of twenty minutes.

Keith said Deputies were being directed for much of the chase by a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter.

“That allowed our deputies to back off which in most situations will result in the driver slowing down, and eventually stopping. Unfortunately in this case, the driver continued on” Keith said.

All of the four people inside of th truck were teens. The driver died shortly after the crash–the others were slightly hurt.

“One of them was a pregnant teenage girl. She was taken to University Hospital as a precaution” Keith said, adding a second teen was also checked out after complaining of neck pain.

Meanwhile, deputies still aren’t sure why the driver refused to stop.

“Our deputies did find a stolen gun inside of the truck” Keith said.
