It’s happened again.
Separate apparent cases of domestic violence late Thursday Night and early Friday Morning have shaken the San Antonio area.
In one case, a pregnant woman is dead after apparently being stabbed inside of a townhome off of Nacogdoches Road. In the other, a man and woman are dead after what police describe as an apparent murder-suicide on the Eastside at a home near Rigsby and Loop 410.
In the vast majority of these cases, the experts will tell you the signs were likely there for quite some time ahead of the violent final act.
“Very rarely, there is a (first) case where the violence (comes) with a fatal result” said Family Violence Prevention Services CEO Marta Pelaez, who told KTSA News such abuse usually escalates over time.
“Domestic violence is progressive. It does not begin with someone putting a gun to your head. It does not begin with someone slashing you with a knife” Pelaez said.
She also said many victims of domestic violence make a very common mistake–which too often costs them their life.
“You can not change the perpetrator–that is one of the biggest mistakes people think” Pelaez said.
