Emotional Promotion Ceremony for Injured Guardsman

An emotional promotion ceremony Wednesday at Brooke Army Medical Center.

Guam National Guardsman Noel Espino, facing a near death experience just two years ago, goes from Captain Espino to Major Espino.

“We’ve been through a rough road,” he told the crowd gathered inside the Warrior and Family Support Center.

A road that started in Kentucky almost two years ago.

“I was in an auto-pedestrian accident,” Espino said. “I was the pedestrian and the auto was driven by a drunk driver.”

He lost his left hip and leg. He’s recovering and rehabbing at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.

“With the help of the family, we’ve overcome that ugly experience…it was a challenge, it wasn’t easy, but we’ve bounced back,” he said.

While rising from Captain to Major, almost two years to the day his whole world changed.
