Explosion Rocks South Side Motel

Investigators now say a natural gas leak caused an explosion that knocked a door of its hinges and left two people seriously burned at a South Side motel.

The blast occured around 4:20 this morning at the Ever Kleen Motel on Roosevelt near East Mitchell Street.

“It caused pretty extensive damage to one room at the motel. It blew out the front window and caused the door to be ripped off the hinges,” said Joe Arrington with the San Antonio Fire Department.

Two burn victims were rushed to San Antonio Military Medical Center.

“One male was burned about 30 percent of his body and a female suffered burns on about 70 percent of her body,” said Arrington.

He says another person was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation. The explosion and fire displaced 18 people.
