Finally… S.A. Has a Sister City in Germany

Finally… San Antonio has a sister city in Germany.

“I entered the Mayor’s Office, and I was surprised to find that we didn’t already have a sister city in Germany considering the deep historical ties” Mayor Ivy Taylor said of the agreement that makes San Antonio and Darmstadt sister cities.

The arrangement comes about a year after Darmstadt’s Lord Mayor visited with Council Members, including Ray Lopez–who first visited that city as a Private in the U.S. Army.

“I’ve had a chance to go back a couple of times, and it truly is in the heart of Germany, and has all of those cultural types assets that we pride ourselves (with) here in San Antonio as well” Lopez said, reflecting fondly on his conversations with Darmstadt’s leaders.

“We got an opportunity to have personal dialogue around philosophical, social and other issues that quite honestly are very much in line with how San Antonians feel and how we see things” Lopez said.

Councilman Ron Nirenberg also welcomed the agreement.

“I think it’s quite fitting that we’re extending our relationships here locally considering the fact that international tensions couldn’t be much higher in our lifetime” Nirenberg said.
