Forum On Controversial Textbook

The State Board of Education meets next week to decide on whether or not to use a new textbook on Mexican American Studies.

The book is creating a lot of controversy because some says it contains several factual errors and has it’s fare share of Mexican American stereotypes.

Ramiro Cavazos at the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce says they’re holding a forum to talk about it because they feel it’s bad for the advancement of Mexican Americans.

It’s not about being politically correct. It’s just what is correct. We’re trying to make sure the story’s told in a clear, factual and honest way. Some of the depictions in the book could cause some children to be bullied into a stereotype.”

The Chamber is hosting the forum this morning at 9 at 200 East Grayson Street.
