GOP Candidates Prepare for Texas Debate

The GOP Presidential hopefuls share the stage in Houston Thursday night, for yet another debate.

This one just days ahead of Primary Day in Texas, part of Super Tuesday.

But for one candidate, these next few days are huge.

“This is a crucial debate for Ted Cruz, with his campaign really on the line,” Rice University’s Mark Jones told KTSA News.

It’s almost a must-win for Cruz Tuesday, “send a signal both to Donald Trump, as well as the nation, that the Ted Cruz Campaign is alive and well,” Jones said.

What if Cruz doesn’t celebrate Tuesday night? “His campaign is perhaps mortally wounded,” he said.

Recent polling has Donald Trump closing the gap in Texas.

“Trump is doing so well he just needs to avoid having a poor performance” in this debate, Jones said.

Trump is the frontrunner, with Cruz and Marco Rubio chasing him.

“We’re still a long, long way away from Trump capturing the GOP nomination, but, with every passing day, his prospects for winning that nomination rise.”

Primary Day in Texas is Tuesday.
