Governor Takes Aim At Alamo City Law

Governor Abbott is asking state lawmakers to strike down San Antonio’s tougher ban on cell phones behind the wheel in favor of a new state law banning texting while driving.

The Alamo City’s “hands-free” ordinance is much tougher on drivers than the statewide ban.

But, Abbott is asking lawmakers in the upcoming special session to nullify local ordinances across the state which would force cities to use the state law instead. The state law was approved by the Governor at the end of the legislative session.
