Groups Weigh in on New Mayor

By Don Morgan

The city will welcome a new Mayor next week and with new leadership comes mixed feelings.

Some, like Henry Rodriguez at LULAC feel Ron Nirenberg will do an outstanding job as Mayor.

“He’s a deep thinker and a genuine person. He has worked with us on a couple of issues and when we reached out to him, he responded right away and worked hard for us. I’m excited about the future of the city.”

But others, including Bob Martin at the Homeowner Taxpayer Association of Bexar County feel the new Mayor will bring back some unpopular public transportation options that voters struck down in previous elections.

“He’s a big advocate for public transportation so I think we can expect a push for rail and possibly toll roads.”

Nirenberg will be sworn in as Mayor next week.
