International Fire Conference in the Alamo City

An international fire conference hosted in the Alamo City for the first time.

“Fire Rescue International is the annual meeting of the Internation Association of Fire Chiefs,” SAFD’s Joe Arrington told KTSA News.

It’s brought thousands of fire and emergency service personnel, from around the globe, into San Antonio this weekend.

“It’s a huge honor for us to host this event,” he said. “Over ten thousand fire fighters and chief officers from around the country and around the world, as far away as Saudi Arabia, are here taking part in this event.

It’s a training opportunity for departments of all sizes.

“It’s for these decision makers and chiefs to get together and discuss tactics or strategies or events that are occurring in their areas and share their ideas and the training with that,” he said.

It’ll also include hands on training for fire fighters.

The conference runs through Saturday night at the convention center downtown.
