A Bexar County Grand Jury has indicted convicted killer Genene Jones in another murder.
The indictment in the killing of 2-year-old Rosemary Vega follows on the heels of another last month in the murder of 11-month-old Joshua Sawyer. Both children died in 1981.
“In both cases Jones was working as a nurse in the pediatric intensive care unit at a local hospital,” District Attorney Nico LaHood said. “For Joshua’s mommy and for Rosemary’s I mean I think that they both can say that they didn’t think this day would ever come, so it’s bitter sweet because they still have been cheated out of a life with their precious baby.”
Jones is suspected of killing possibly dozens of infants and is set to be released from prison next March. She’s been serving concurrent prison sentences for a 1984 murder conviction in the death of Chelsea McClellan in Kerrville and the injury of Rolando Santos.
Prior to her mandatory release, Jones will be extradited back to Bexar County to await trial on the new charges.
LaHood said his team of 12 people working on the case is prepared to deal with the challenges that may arise since it is an older case.
