Local Attorney Runs 2,000th Marathon

A local attorney is celebrating a major milestone in the San Antonio Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon. Larry Macon ran his 2,000th marathon Sunday.

“An incredible achievement for most marathons won in American history by one of San Antonio’s most prominent runners,” said event organizer Dan Cruz.

A 30-year-old San Antonio man won the men’s division. Erik Burciaga crossed the finish line in two hours, 42 minutes.

Caroline Veltri, a 27-year-old attorney from New Jersey, was the women’s division winner.

The runners got wet, but that didn’t dampen their spirits.

“There was a little shower early in the morning, but nothing that prevented our athletes from having a great time,” said Cruz.

He said plans already are underway for next year’s event and once again, it’ll be the first weekend in December.

“It’s a perfect weekend in San Antonio between Thanksgiving and Christmas to celebrate the holiday spirit. Our runners are enjoying the lights on the River Walk,” said Cruz.

Online registration for next year’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon already is underway.

“The people who take advantage of the presale entry fees can still sign up through next Sunday for the lowest price of the year,” said Cruz.
