Man Found Dead in East Side Fire

A man is dead after his East Side home went up in flames.

Neighbors tried to help when they saw the fire at the home on Belmont near North Gevers just before 9 this morning.

“They saw smoke coming out of the house and when they were calling 9-1-1, they made entry into the house and attempted to put the fire out,” said Joe Arrington with the San Antonio Fire Department.

The neighbors say the man’s body was on fire and they doused the flames.

“When we made the scene, we pulled the victim out of the home and checked vital signs and unfortunately, he was deceased,” Arrington told KTSA News.

The first crew arriving at the burning home called for police, thinking it could be a crime scene, but a preliminary report indicates it probably was an accidental fire that started in the kitchen.
