Man Found Dead in Mobile Home Fire

Investigators are looking into a fire that consumed a southwest side mobile home and left one man dead.

The place on Gwenda Lea Street was fully engulfed in flames when the first crews arrived shortly before 7 this morning. Neighbors told firefighters they believed someone was inside and Woody Woodward with the San Antonio Fire Department has confirmed that firefighters discovered a man’s body while battling the blaze.

“It appears that this individual was asleep in this mobile home,” Woodward told KTSA News.

No one else was there when the fire broke out.

“We did have some heavy smoke and two neighbors were treated for smoke inhalation,” said Woodward.

While arson investigators are trying to determine what sparked the fire, Woodward says they’re looking at issues with generators hooked up to the mobile home.

“Also, we understand that there may have been candles lit inside,” said Woodward.
