Man Shot Dead in Standoff

An eight-hour standoff on the Southside ends with a man shot dead by San Antonio SWAT officers.

Police said it all began at around 2 AM Wednesday in a neighborhood on East Pyron, where a man opened fire on some neighbors who were outside moving furniture.

The neighbors were not hurt, and the man retreated in to his home for several hours as police officers waited outside.

Then at around 10 AM things changed quickly.

“As SWAT was setting up to serve a warrant, the subject came out of his house with a gun in his hand” said SAPD Chief William McManus.

The man then spent a few moments walking around his home, waving the gun, before coming up on the two SWAT officers.

” They fired two rounds, and the subject was dead on the scene” McManus said.

Both officers have been placed on routine administrative leave following the shooting, which will be reviewed by the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office.
