Maverick Bldg Upgrade Closer

A familiar piece of the Downtown skyline–right off the River Walk–is one step closer to a much-needed upgrade.

Bexar County Commissioners have given a green light to an incentive package to help with improvements at the Maverick Building.

“These will I believe be the most affordable apartments in the Downtown area” Commissioner Tommy Calvert said ahead of the vote Tuesday Morning, adding “They’re very small–but they’re the kind of rent structure a hotel worker–or, the average person working Downtown could afford.”

In fact, the plans are aimed at those who might need need a car to get around.

“The apartment dweller who will depend on bikes or other forms of transportation… that’s the target market” said Bexar County Economic Development Director David Marquez.

The plans also include retail space on the first two floors of the building.
