Mayor Views Police Video of Confrontation Between Teen and Officer

By Don Morgan

Mayor Ivy Taylor says she has viewed the body camera video from an altercation between a Police Officer and a 14 year old girl.

The incident happened two weekends ago when a bystander took a video of an SAPD officer punching the girl. The Mayor released a statement saying state law prohibits her from commenting on what she saw in the body cam video but she is confident in the process taking place now.

The officer involved in the incident is currently on administrative duty while Internal Affairs conducts an investigation.

A Spokesperson for City Councilman and Mayoral Candidate Ron Nirenberg says he hasn’t seen the body cam video but as a parent, he is disturbed by the images on the bystander video and he’s waiting for the outcome of the investigation.
