Millions of Texans to Travel for the 4th

By the million–Texans will again be getting out of town for the Fourth of July Weekend.

“Nearly 3.1 million people in Texas will be traveling this Independence Day Weekend–that’s a 1% increase in overall travel from last year” AAA Texas’ Doug Shupe told KTSA News.

The bulk of those travelers–about 2.6 million–will be on the road–thanks to those low gas prices.

“U.S. drivers have saved about $20-billion on gasoline so far this year compared to the same time period last year” Shupe said, adding “That has made road travel certainly more affordable than recent years.”

Still, the number of air travelers is expected to increase this year over last year as well. AAA Texas forecasts about 279-thousand Texans will be flying this July 4th Weekend–up more than 1.5% over last year.
