Not too Early for a Flu Shot

It’s only the first week of October and while you may not be thinking about getting a flu shot, the experts says there’s no time like the present.

Carol Schlesinger at Metro Health tells us it takes a couple of weeks for the vaccine to get into your system so getting your flu shot now is a good idea.

“If you get the flu you could miss 5 days of work or more. Your children could get sick too and you could also have your children out of school for 5 days.”

The vaccinations are available at your nearest health care facility of pharmacy. She says if your have health insurance, flu vaccines for you and your family are likely covered but if you don’t, just contact Metro Health. They have a sliding cost scale based on your income.
