Bicyclist Killed on Interstate

Distracted driving is the cause of a bicycle  fatality.

Around 9:00 o'clock  Monday morning,  the driver of a pickup was traveling north on the access road of Interstate 35 before O'Connor Road.

San Antonio Police spokesman Sergeant Javier Salazar says "The driver of that vehicle reports that he was distracted momentarily. He was tuning his radio, and looked up just in time to see the bicyclist as he was striking him. The bicyclist was thrown from the bike and was killed, pronounced dead at the scene."

The bicyclist was identified as 58 year old Abel Palacios.

Salazar adds " I'd like to stress the importance of distracted driving. Definitely keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road at all times, because something like this,  it takes a split second to end somebody's life."

The truck driver did stop to help and no charges were filed.
