Air Quality After the Fire

Local and state  officials have been monitoring the air quality since a massive blaze swept through New Earth Soils and Compost on Interstate 10 near Foster Road Monday night.

San Antonio Metropolitan Health  District's air monitoring staff was able to quickly determine there were no elevated particulate matter readings as a result of the fire.

From  a statewide observation, the Texas Commision on Environmental Quality also gives the air a healthy grade.

"Since what was burning was pallets and mulch, we wouldn't expect to see any air toxics. But always when we have situations like this,  we would urge residents to use common sense."

TCEQ spokesman Terry Clawson added that if you suspect a problem with the air or smoke, you're urged  to contact the local Health Department, or TCEQ, which has an office in San Antonio.
