281 Wreck Claims Young Boy's Life

A young boy is dead, after the white SUV he was a passenger in hit a stalled 18-wheeler on southbound Highway U.S. 281 between Brook Hollow and Thousand Oaks Drive Monday morning.

"An 18-wheeler flat bed trailor was stalled out on the side of 281, partially into the lane of travel it looks like. At some point a larger white SUV that was unable to stop partially struck the rear of the 18-wheeler. The vehicle kept going....a part of the white SUV stayed lodged underneath and on the rear of the 18-wheeler," said SAPD Sergeant Javier Salazar.

The white SUV was carrying three passengers: a young boy between the age of 7 and 10-years-old who was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries, a man in his 40's who was air lifted with substantial injuries, and a small girl between five and seven-years-old that didn't appear to have any outward injuries, but was still taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution.

The man who was driving the 18-wheeler is reportedly uninjured.

"We are still trying to determine the exact cause of the mechanical problems he was experiencing, and then the exact cause of the accident itself. I don't know if any safety precautions were up at the time of the accident, but we are still looking into that," said Sergeant Salazar.

SAPD are still uncertain as the the relationship of the man and the two children in the white SUV, and could not comment on which hospital the man and the young girl were taken to.
