The lower level of Interstate Highway 35 at the San Pedro Ave. exit will remain closed in both directions through rush hour Wednesday, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

"We're having problems with the pump station that is located in that area, so that's why it's taking a while to actually clear out the area," said TxDot San Antonio Spokeswoman Laura Lopez.

The stretch of IH 35 was blocked off by the San Antonio Police Department around 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, after several cars found themselves stranded in the quickly rising rain waters.

TxDot claims it is currently working on the pump station to discover the source of the problem and get it up and running again.

"It's malfunctioning. It's pumping, but it's not going where it's supposed to be going," said Lopez. "So, it's going to be a while before we actually open it obviously, because we can't get the water off of the roadway."
