SAFD Looking for Westside Arsonists

The San Antonio Fire Department is looking for some arsonists responsible for starting four fires in a Westside neighborhood around 4:30 Wednesday morning.

"We had a van that was on fire at 5123 Pettus, another vehicle on fire at 5300 Costa Mesa Street. Those two fires were followed by trash fires at the intersection of Callahan Rd. and Hemphill Drive, and also at Culebra and Benrus Boulevard," said Deborah Foster, SAFD Public Information Officer.

No one was injured in any of the four fires, but the two vehicles were completely destroyed.

"We actually solicited the assistance from SAPD's patrol and also Blue Eagle to see if we could develop any suspects for those fires. We were unable to get anybody overnight, but we do have the patrol substation actually monitoring that area for similar situations today (Wednesday)," said Foster.

Foster said the fire department believes this could be an isolated incident, but will launch an investigation if any more fires in the area occur.
