Central Catholic HS Receives Large Donation

Central Catholic High School in San Antonio's downtown area received a very generous donation from an alumni couple Friday morning.

Central Catholic Alumni, Bob Elizondo, and the campus' all-girls Providence High School alumnae Anna Elizondo donated $1,000,000 to the Central Catholic Campaign.

The donation is dedicated in memory of the couple's son Michael David Elizondo who died this past April, and will go towards building the school's Library Resource Center and Classroom Building which will be named in Michael's memory.

"The thought came to us after the rosary, and on the day of the funeral I woke up and told Anna 'the Holy Spirit has just told us the best opportunity to memorialize our son is to go ahead and have the library named after him," said Bob Elizondo, who also serves on both the Central Catholic Board and the Sesquicentennial Advisory Board and is the honorary Co-Chair of The Campaign for Central Catholic.

Michael's mother said having this library named after her son is both a wonderful and appropriate way to memorialize him.

"Mike was an avid reader, who loved to read...loved to read, and also had a lot of wisdom. It's very appropriate for Mike; he competed well, and kept the faith," said Anna.

Central Catholic broke ground on the new center Friday. The current historic library will connect to this new 85% larger, 3,755 sq. ft. library.
