Single Vote Decides Kendall County Commissioner

Mike Fincke has won the Republican primary runoff for Precinct 1 Kendall County Commissioner by one vote!

Fincke and his opponent Charlie Boyd IV were scheduled to break the July 31st runoff tie Monday afternoon by the roll of a die, but an early morning recount, which included mailed in ballots, decided the candidate instead.

"We did not have to flip. We did a recount this morning (Monday) at 8:30, got through about 12 and there was a discrepancy in the mail in ballots. My opponent lost one vote, and so I ended up winning 623-622," said Fincke.

The state election code would have presided over the election if the recount would have remained tied, as it says "the tied candidates shall cast lots to determine the winner" if a race remains tied after an automatic recount.

"I feel for Charlie, my opponent, by losing by one vote, but I'm glad that the voters decided who was going to be the commissioner of this precinct and not the roll of a dice, and I think he would say the same thing," said Fincke.

Mike Fincke will become the new Precinct 1 Kendall County Commissioner as no Democrat if seeking the post in the November election.
