Fire Destroys Warehouse

More than 40 units from the San Antonio Fire Department were dispatched around 4:30 Friday morning for a massive warehouse fire in the 9500 block of Ball Street and Perrin Creek.

The location of the fire was just blocks away from the Northeast Interstate 410 and Austin Highway intersection, and clouds of thick smoke and flames continued into morning rush hour traffic.

"We are going to be here for quite a while. This building is probably 30,000 square feet plus, and it's stacked with plastic pallets. It takes a lot to get those things burning, but once they get going it's a challenge to get them out," said Fire Chief Charles Hood.

"We got the call about 5:15 that it was up in flames and I drove down here. It looks very bad. There's a whole bunch of plastic pallets that are inside of this thing," said Steve Brewer, Operations Manager for the company.

No injuries were reported, and there is no word yet on what started the fire.
