An Appeals Court in Washington D.C. strikes down what would have been a tough new Environmental Protection Agency rule sparking a wide range of reactions in Texas. The rule--which would have placed strict limits on power plant pollution spilling over from one state to another--was seen by many as a jobs killer.
"It's very likely that some of those plants in the northeast part of the state would have been shut down, directly responsible for rolling blackouts this summer" said Texas Association of Business President Bill Hammond. But others see the situation much differently.
"That cross state rule was estimated to have saved tens of thousands of lives across the country--including more than a thousand here in Texas" said Luke Metzger with Environment Texas. He also said there's no need to see a tradeoff of jobs versus the environment.
