New Braunfels Mayor Taking Medical Leave

New Braunfels Mayor Gale Pospisil will be taking a leave of absence at the end of this month.

"I have recently found out that I have an aneurysm on my aorta, and it's going to require major surgery and could be a month to two months recovery time. So, it's obviously not something that will allow me to carry on my duties as mayor at that time," said Mayor Pospisil.

She says she has not yet scheduled a date for the surgery, but plans to do so sometime next week.

"It's up to a ten-day stay in the hospital, and then anywhere from a month to two month's recovery. It just kind of depends on if there are any complications or anything. Thank goodness I'm in good health otherwise and so if I follow doctor's orders it hopefully won't be any longer than two month's at the most."

Mayor Pospisil says she has already started to receive great support from the residents of her city which she greatly appreciates in her situation.

She will undergo surgical repair of the aneurysm at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in New Braunfels, and in the meantime has been told to take it easy on physical activities.

"Obviously anything that will cause your blood pressure to increase is something that they like to encourage you not to do, so I'm trying not to get too stressed out, and that's not always easy when you're the mayor, haha."

Mayor Pro Tem Mark Goodner will assume the duties of the Mayor's office in Mayor Pospisil's absence.
