San Antonio Police arrested a 23-year-old man who was trying to sell a number of stolen items on Craigslist Wednesday.

"I was trying to go get some new shoes...guess not," the thief, whose name police are keeping anonymous right now, said as he was being escorted to a squad car from the Northeast Police Station off Jones Maltsberger.

Police were tipped off to the thief's scheme when a man came into the Northeast Police Station and told them he had seen his stolen $2,500 golf clubs for sell on Craigslist.

"They set up a buy with our suspect, and then met up with our suspect. Prior to the buy, the victim told detectives that there would be certain markings on these golf clubs. When they did the transaction with the suspect the markings that the victim said would be on the clubs were on there," said SAPD Officer Matt Porter.

The similar markings confirmed the golf clubs were stolen, and the thief was arrested on a felony charge of possession of stolen property.

"Subsequent to this they did an investigation that took them to the suspect's house. He signed a consent to search form, and detectives also recovered a stolen computer and two stolen GPS systems," said Officer Porter.

The thief is currently being held at the Bexar County Jail, and police are looking for the owners of the additional stolen property they found.

"A lot of times what these suspects do is they take the property and try to get a quick turnover. We do have detectives that look into that, and this is a perfect example. It's just a message to those thieves out there that when you're selling this property out on Craigslist, there's a good chance that a detective is on the other end of that computer and you will be arrested," said Officer Porter.
