Plans for USAF Flying Saucer

U.S. Air Force plans for building what can only be described as a flying saucer have come to light in recently declassified documents.
A recent blog post from a branch of the National Archive reveals a cold-war era plan to build a round, vertical take-off and landing disc-shaped aircraft.
The document titled "Project 1794, Final Development Summary Report" and dated 1956 includes illustrations of the saucer.
It says the Air Force had contracted a Canadian company to build the craft.
The report concludes the design was feasible and that further tests would be required.
The estimated cost of the plan was more than three million dollars at the time, which would translate to more than 26 million dollars today.
