While driving home from work early Saturday San Antonio Police Sergeant Jesse Garcia spotted a vehicle that had burst into flames after hitting a utility pole in Southeast Bexar County  on Loop 1604.
With help from two other passing motorists, Garcia pulled two trapped teen girls to safety.
Police Chief William McManus has since honored Garcia as a hero, awarding the officer  a Certificate of Merit, Monday.
The girls were transported to area hospitals for treatment of burns.
Sergeant Garcia also was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor burns on his face and arm.
