Madison HS Principal Resigns

Madison High School Principal Chris Thompson resigned Wednesday amid an investigation into theft allegations.

"For several weeks the district has been investigating whether a theft occurred at Madison High School by the Principal. In the course of this investigation the principal there has resigned his position," said Aubrey Chancellor, a spokeswoman for Northeast ISD.

The investigation alleged that Thompson had taken several square feet of gym flooring and two patio shades. The flooring stemmed from an incident in 2010, in which 700 square feet of rubber gym tile were taken after it had to be removed from the gym due to a contractor error.

Throughout the course of the investigation, Thompson had maintained he received permission from a contractor to take the flooring; a statement Chancellor said the district has been unable to confirm.

"Now that the principal has resigned, and all of the items in question have since been returned the investigation will not need to continue," said Chancellor.

Thompson has been a Northside ISD employee for 26 years, and has served as Principal of Madison High School for the past 8 years.

"As you can imagine I can't get into the details of a personnel matter, I can just say that he chose on his own accord to resign and made the announcement to his staff," said Chancellor.
Executive Director of School Administration, Joe Reasons will serve as interim principal until the district names a permanent replacement.
