Fire Shuts Down Texas Nuclear Plant

A sudden fire partially shut down a South Texas nuclear power plant Tuesday afternoon....
Declared an "unusual event", the lowest level of emergency classification, there were no injuries.

South Texas Project  spokesman Buddy Eller said effective first response came from within, as the plant's Fire Brigade extinguished the fire within fifteen minutes.
Unit Two of the plant remained shut down during  repair of the damaged transformer, while the plant's other unit continued to generate power at full capacity.

The Texas Gulf Coast nuclear power plant near Bay City is co-owned by San Antonio's CPS Energy, and  serves two million customers.
