SA Could Get AF Training School

Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland could soon be the new home for a very prestigious Air Force Training school.

Congressman Joaquin Castro and Pete Gallego announced Wednesday that the United States Air Force has indicated Lackland as the preferred and reasonable host for the relocation of the Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) and Air Liaison Officer (ALO) training school.

"San Antonio has fewer bad weather days and shorter commute times in comparison to what they have now, and frankly I think were privileged to have it. It's a very important kind of training that helps in terms of precision in targeting," said U.S. Congressman Pete Gallego.

The Air Force is scheduled to finalize its decisions regarding the school's relocation by fall, following the completion of an environmental impact study.

"Military families are an integral part of San Antonio and I am pleased the Air Force is seriously considering the city as a home to their expanding military training school," said U.S. Congressman Joaquin Castro.

The training school could mean very good news for an Air Force base that has had its full share of bad press lately due to ongoing Court Martial of sex scandals among trainers and their trainees.

"It's a 19 week course, and they produce around 270 graduates a year. So, in terms of the infusion of dollars into the community over that period of time with the armed service men and women and their families. It really is another shot in the arm to the economy of San Antonio," said Congressman Gallego.

If approved by the Air Force later this year, the training school is projected to be fully operational by November of 2014.
