SBA Loans Show Stength of Local Economy

By Bill O'Neil

Looking for more evidence of the strength of San Antonio's local economy? One such indicator may be found with the U.S. Small Business Administration--which reports more than 87-million dollars in new loans in the San Antonio area so far for the first quarter of the current fiscal year.

"We're having a strong quarter--and we keep working with our pructs to make sure small businesses can get those loans" said Leo Davila with the U.S. Small Business Administration. Davila said lenders are growing more comfortable with loaning cash to small businesses as the Great Recession continues to fade further and further in to the past.

"And that's important because they (small businesses) are the heartbeat of our economy" Davila said.
