Bus Crashes into Hotel Pool

A North East Independent School bus driver lost control of his bus and ended up in the Town House Motel's swimming pool between Broadway and Nacodoches Road Thursday afternoon.

"Our bus driver was traveling east bound on the access road here on 410, somehow lost control, hit the utility pole, and then kareemed through a fence and ended up in a hotel pool," said Aubrey Chancellor, spokeswoman with NEISD.

No children were on the bus at the time of the accident, as the driver was on his way to his first pick-up stop at a nearby elementary school.

"At this point, we are just in the investigative phase trying to figure out exactly what forced him to lose control and we'll clearly be trying to get to the bottom of that," said Chancellor.
Chancellor said the bus, which cost approximately $92,000, is most likely totaled and would have to be replaced. That amount does not account for the damages done to the hotel's pool area, or the utility pole.

"You look at the accident and you think 'there's no way he could of even walked away,' but thankfully he just has some scrapes and bruises. He was treated here at the scene and isn't even going to be transported to the hospital," said Chancellor.

The bus was lifted out of the swimming pool by a crane late Thursday afternoon.
