Traffic Stop Yields 631 Pounds of Pot

by Elizabeth Ruiz and  Bill O'Neil

A traffic stop in Gonzales results in a drug seizure of more than 600 pounds of marijuana by the Texas Department of Public Safety .

DPS Sgt. Jason Reyes told 550 KTSA News it started with a trooper pulling over a driver for speeding on IH 10 mile marker 649. Arturo Puente Sifuentes decided to outrun the law, but crashed his pickup truck a short while later.

That's when the load of marijuana was discovered.

"We located some false compartments inside that vehicle," said Reyes.

He believes the driver was hauling 631 pounds of pot  valued at more than half-a-million-dollars from Laredo to Houston.

Sifuentes faces federal drug distribution charges.
