School Marshals Bill Filed

By Bill O'Neil
One more line of defense to protect your kids from unthinkable danger inside their classroom. That's the word from a State Representative from Dallas--who has filed bill to create just that.

"We're training people who are school personnel--either a vice-principal, a principal, and administrator--even a teacher--we're giving them significant training so they can act as a school marshal in that situation" said Representative Jason Villalba--whos plan would create a program that would closely resemble the federal air marshal system.

Villalba told 550 KTSA News the thinking is to create a last line of defense in the event of danger at a school. He said the cost of the program on the State would be minimal.

"What we opted for is to have the training paid for by the individual who is volunteering to be the marshal" Villalba said, adding school districts around the state would be allowed to opt in to the program--based upon whether or not they think they need that extra layer of security.
