Cisneros Forming Bipartisan Group

by Elizabeth Ruiz

Former HUD Secretary and ex-San Antonio Mayor Henry Cisneros is helping form a bipartisan group to push for overhauling the nation's immigration laws and putting 11 million illegal immigrants on a path to citizenship.

Cisneros is working with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, a Republican, ex-Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, a Democrat and Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, a Republican.

Rendell says the the purpose is to come up with a solution that can get through Congress.

The group is being formed with help from the Bipartisan Policy Center.

Cisneros served as mayor of San Antonio from 1981 to 1989.

He was President Bill Clinton's Secretary of Houston and Urban Development from 1993 to 1997.

Cisneros is currently Executive Chairman of Los Angeles-based CityView, which finances commercial and residential developers.
