Brighter Jobs Picture Forecast for Texas

By Bill O'Neil & Johnny Shannon

Strong--with the potential to be even stronger--the word from Texas Workforce Commission Chairman Andres Alcantar in looking at the jobs picture across the Lone Star State in the coming months.
"We've been fortunate to add 260-thousand jobs over the past twelve months--and that growth has been broad based. It's occurred across a number of different industries" Alcantar said, seeing the potential for more growth ahead.
"But in doing so, we must also keep looking for different ways to help our different companies and different industries remain competitive" Alcantar said. If there is a weak spot to be found--he said it's likely to be in the IT sector.
"But when you consider IT in genral and in terms of it's impact on the other economic sectors of the Texas economy, we know that the need for IT workers will continue to reamin very strong across industries" Alcantar said.
As for the San Antonio area's job picture, Alcantar said he thinks things can get even brighter.
"I believe the possibilites are really high, given the vibrant committment to continue to diversify the aerospace industry, manufacturing, health care, and other industries here in San Antonio and the surrounding region."
