SA Tea Party Awaits State of the Union

Local Tea Partiers are anticipating what the President will have to say about the nation during the State of the Union Tuesday night.

"We're very worried. Our main concern at this point is 'how are we going to handle this huge debt,' and 'what is The President willing to put on the table as far as cuts go?," said George Rodriguez, former President of The San Antonio Tea Party and current President of South Texas Alliance for Progress.
The Tea Party, both nationally and locally, has been relatively quiet since the election. Rogriguez told 550 KTSA News  that the reason for the silence is a reorganization within the Tea Party.
"Conservatives recognize that we have to win at the local level in order to win at the national level, and one of the big problems that we continue to have is that there are still a lot of areas at the local level that we need to overcome, as far as organizing and pushing candidates forward goes," said Rodriguez.
The Texas Tea Party celebrated two particularly large wins the last election, taking the open U.S. Senatorial seat with Ted Cruz and a Texas Senate seat with Doctor Donna Campbell.
"The ones that we've gotten in there, I think, are very very solid," said Rodriguez. I'm very hopeful of folks, like Ted Cruz, that they will be able to show the rest of the Republican Party what is really needed as far as a strong conservative approach to these issues goes."
