His first State of the Union Address as a Capitol Hill Lawmaker is in the books--and Congressman Pete Gallego said he likes what he has heard from President Barack Obama.
The Congressman said he liked hearing about efforts to strengthen the middle class--as well as the need for immigration reform.
"The parent in me understands that a lot of immigrants risk their lives--so that their kids can have a
better life. That's a very American trait" Gallego said. An injured combat veteran from El Paso was Gallego's guest for the address--something the Congressman said should serve as a reminder to the rest of the country of our obligations to our service members once they return home."It's up to us to step up to the plate and make sure we meet our obligations and commitments--regardless of the fiscal cliff--regardless of the other challenges" Gallego said. As for sitting in on his first State of the Union Address as a member of Congress:
"From my background and where I came from, I never dreamed that I'd have this opportunity--so--it was an incredible moment."
