Reward UOffered in Copper Theft

By Bill O'Neil

A one-thousand dollar reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of two men caught on tape--stealing hundreds of pounds of copper from a SAWS facility in the 7400 block of I-10.

"It's a problem that doesn't happen frequently--but happens often enough that it affects our costs of operating" said Anne Hayden with SAWS. She tells 550 KTSA News that kind of theft can take an even bigger toll.
"Just as much as anything else, they frequently cause more in damage in costs--than they do in the actual cost of replacing thee wiring" Hayden said, adding "some of the equipment that we have is very specialized--and to b e able to replace it is pretty expensive."

Anyone with information on the theft is urged to call Crimestoppers at 224-7867.
