Education Rally set for Saturday
By Bill O'Neil & Johnny Shannon
Thousands of parents and educators are expected at the State Capitol Saturday--and they will bring at least two major messages for Legislators to hear.
"Cutting back on testing. It's funny how two years ago it all seemed so logical--nobody wanted to touch it. And now I think the majority of legislators are more than willing to cut back. It's just how much--and how we
do it" said Save Texas Schools Chairman Allen Weeks. But as for that other message, he tells 550 KTSA News the recent court ruling on school funding has put many lawmakers in a wait and see mode.
"Some of them say let's wait until the Supreme Court rules. That means we have two more years of Texas kids in crowded classrooms, and all sorts of programs cut" Weeks said.
Weeks said at least ten-thousand people are expected at the rally--which begins with a march from the Congress Avenue Bridge to the State Capitol at 11 AM.
