A sales tax holiday on firearms and ammunition--every March 2nd--which just happens to be Texas Independence Day--A newly filed bill from a Dallas-area lawmaker would make that a reailty if it passes the legislative session.
The motivation is really very simple said State Representative Jeff Leach.
"Our position is that Texas should take the lead against the federal government's attempts to infringe on our Second Amendment rights" Leach told 550 KTSA News. He also said the bill--titled The Gun Ownership Reinforcement Act--is about more
than just simply sending a message.
"This isn't just about sending a message--this is about getting a bill passed. I don't believe in kicking political footballs--or just filing bills to send messages."
In fact, Leach said he sees a lot of support for his bill among his colleagues in Austin.
"We believe this bill has broad support in both the House and the Senate. We've got over twenty-five co-authors on it. The Speaker Pro-Tem of the House is joint-authoring this with me."
