Is NASCAR taking a closer look at South Central Texas and the new Circuit of the Americas? Their Grand-Am of the Americas is set for Saturday and Sunday in Austin.
The event presents a rare opportunity for driver John Fogarty--who will be in the #99.
"It's not something we get to do that often. I've been racing for a long time--and it's been a long time since I've put the rubber down on a new circuit" Fogarty told 550 KTSA News. All in all, he said he's
impressed with what he sees in Austin."They did a good job in making sure the spectators will be able to view the racing--and the layout of the circuit itself--I think lends itself to close racing and overtaking."
NASCAR's Herb Branham is confident the event will be entertaining--sand said it just might take you on a trip down memory lane.
"A lot of similarities in what you're going to see at the Austin racetrack to the old street races in San Antonio" Branham said. As for whether or not NASCAR might look to add a road race in Austin--Branham told 550 KTSA News the schedule is pretty well set for right now--but "You never say never on those type of things. The NASCAR Nationwide Series has been going to different venues for road racing."
