Assault charges have been filed against two local elementary students involved in a B.B. gun shooting in their classroom.

One of the students allegedly brought the Air Soft B.B. gun to class, and the other allegedly shot two of her fellow female classmates in their fourth grade classroom.

"Two charges have been filed in relation to that case. Two assault charges that were filed in Precinct Three Justice of the Peace," said Steve Linscomb with Judson ISD.

Disciplinary hearings for the students were held Friday, but Linscomb told 550 KTSA News the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act protects their punishments from being revealed to the public.

"There could be expulsion, there could be alternative school, you know things like that are options," said Linscomb. "At this point, I think they were trying to determine whether they should go to another campus, or alternative campus."

The incident could be seen as mere child's play given the type of gun the students used, but Linscomb said it's important that children know the severity that comes with bringing any kind of weapon onto a school campus.

"Whether it's a knife, a gun, or even a toy gun, it will not be tolerated, and you can't bring them on campus," said Linscomb. "We don't need to have anything of that sort if we're trying to make a safe environment for students to learn."
